ReplyDeleteHolden does have an interesting point of view. I mean he keeps the reader entertained all. But I also think he has a very negative view towards everyone. Even if it’s a person who he genuinely does like, he still points out the negative in them. Also it’s very apparent that when he drinks or is getting emotion during a conversion he cannot seem to tone down the volume of his voice. He also swears all the time, just like most teenagers do.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Clarice and Chantel. I do believe that Holden is negative about the people that he meets in his life, everyone except Phoebe and Allie, who he thinks very highly of. The way Holden talks helps us to understand his feeling and frustration and even sadness.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Clarice when she says it is interesting hearing from Holden's point of view and to hear what he is thinking. The book definitely would not be the same as it is if it were written in third person. We do get a sense of how Holden is feeling and what he thinks by hearing it straight from him.
ReplyDeleteAs for the swearing, I'm getting a little annoyed of hearing goddamn this and goddamn that.. He says it so much throughout the whole book.
I agree, this story can not be written in any other way. It would only be 30 pgs long if written in 3rd person because the rest of the novel conssits of Holden's negative rants.
