I thought Holden was acting like a chicken when he didn't want to see his mom. I have a good relationship with my mom and would have wanted to face the music.
ReplyDeleteI have a good relationship with my parents too, however sometimes its just easier to hide rather than face the music. I understand why Holden didn't want to see his mom but I do agree with Kurt. I think he should have just faced his problems rather than hide because in the end its just gonna cause more problems.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree he was a chicken. Holden needs to do some growing up and take responsibility for his actions. He's done things in the past that have obviously upset his parents, but instead of running from them I think he needs to finally face it like Clarice said.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this book, Holden's views have stuck in my head. Since he always talks about how phony everyone around him is, I have started to see that too. Not with every single person, but a lot of people that I thought were my friends, I'm now seeing how "phony" they actually are. I don't quite know if this is a good thing or not, but I think it's kind of funny that this book left a pretty big impression on me.
ReplyDeleteWhat really ticked me off about The Catcher in the Rye was the fact that Holden never talked to Jane. Its understandable if he would have been a shy type of guy, but He is quite outgoing so he definitely should have talked to her at some point. Playing the waiting game isn't going to do you any favours, Mr. Caulfield
ReplyDeleteWhat I found strange about the story was how he didnt speak with certain characters you would expect him to. Like Jane gallagher. He never spoke to her once. Also his parents. They weren't in the story once. I wonder what it would be like if they were in the story. Maybe Holden could have had a father son talk with his Dad and we could see ho worried his mother was about him. And as for Jane, maybe we could see what she and Holden are actually like together.
ReplyDeletePersonally, looking back on it,+ I think that if Holden WOULD have talked to Jane, courted her and eventually started dating her exclusively, It would have ruined who Holden is and what he represents. The same goes if he was to start talking to his parents; Holden is the bad guy in the movie persay. Talking to people and sharing his feelings and what not would have defeated the purpose of novel and its main theme.

ReplyDeleteChasing Holden, a movie adaptation, I think we should watch it in class. It's about a boy that tries to re-creat Holdens actions. The link is posted above!
