Does anyone know the exact year that the book is set?
ReplyDeleteIt was set in 1951.
ReplyDeleteI think late 1940's and then follows throughout to during the 1950's
ReplyDeleteThe book itself does not give a specific date. It just seems to be post-WW2
ReplyDeleteduring the 1950's
ReplyDeleteIf it was published in 1951 and took him 10 years to write, I guess Adam's "post-WWII" time frame makes sense. I know it mentions later in the novel that DB served in the war, but it's not an issue or theme that's at all developed. Whatever year it might have been, it was a much more innocent time in many ways.
ReplyDeletewhat does qualms mean ?
ReplyDeleteI looked up "qualms" on google and I'm thinking that it means uneasy. "Do you have any particular qualms about leaving Pency?" Mr. Spencer is basically just asking Holden if he has any uneasy-ness or any issues or concerns about leaving Pency.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Holden always wear that old hunting hat?

ReplyDeleteI think that Holden wears that hat so that he can be different from everyone else. The hat is red and it stands out, so Holden wears it to pull away from looking the same as the others.
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense.
ReplyDeleteThanks
